Only the list owners of rottie-l can subscribe you to this list. This is because the list is so large (over 600 members) and we require each member to introduce him/herself. Please do not be intimidated by this process. Anyone who is interested in Rottweilers is encouraged to subscribe to the list. We welcome simple pet owners just as much as people who are interested in conformation or Schutzhund.

In order to subscribe to rottie-l we ask that you send us the following information about yourself. You will then receive notice that you have been subscribed to the list.
Name (real full name is REQUIRED)
Your location (does not need to be a specific address, just city and state or country if outside US)
A little description of your Rottweilers (names, ages, etc.)
Other pets
Specific interests (conformation, obedience, Schutzhund, carting, etc.)
Experience in these sports
Why you are interested in this list
Please do not be intimidated by this introduction. If you don't have any Rottweilers but are just interested in them just say so. No one will judge. We are NOT trying to weed out simple pet owners or any other specific group. For example, I don't participate in any dog sports and consider myself "just a pet owner" but I have a special interest in hip dysplasia and canine health. Kathi not only does working dog sports but also conformation. We like to have a broad spectrum of interests across this list. No one will be deleted from the list because of the content of their introduction unless it is obscene or intentionally deceptive. We are just trying to get a handle on who is out there.

There are two addresses you need to know as a member of rottie-l.
To send a message to the list (i.e. all the subscribers of Rottie-L), just send mail to :
rottie-l@APPLE.EASE.LSOFT.COM.
All commands (i.e., signing off the list, requesting the digest, etc.) must be sent to the "listserv address",
listserv@APPLE.EASE.LSOFT.COM
Following are some important LISTSERV commands. For all of these commands, you must send mail to:
listserv@APPLE.EASE.LSOFT.COM.
Leave the subject line blank and put the appropriate command in the body of the message. Do not type anything after the commands. If you have a signature file, disable that feature before sending your message.
To UNSUBSCRIBE from the list do the following:
SIGNOFF rottie-l
***If you are going to be away on vacation, do not UNSUBSCRIBE... see the instructions below for going NOMAIL***
To get the DIGEST version of the list:
SET rottie-l DIGESTS
To return to the regular MAIL version of the list:
SET rottie-l NODIGESTS
If you are going on vacation and wish to stop getting mail for a few days do the following (do not use this to permanently unsubscribe from the list):
SET rottie-l NOMAIL
To resume regular mail service after going NOMAIL:
SET rottie-l MAIL
If you want to subscribe only to certain topics:
SET rottie-l TOPICS: ALL -topic1 -topic2
(where -topic1 -topic2 is the topic(s) you don't want to subscribe to)
OR
SET rottie-l TOPICS: topicname topicname
(where topicname is the specific topic(s) you WANT to subscribe to.)
Examples: SET rottie-l TOPICS: ALL -DOGCHAT will give you all the topics except for DOGCHAT.
SET rottie-l TOPICS: EVENTS DOGCHAT will give you only the messages with topics EVENTS and DOGCHAT.
OTHER SPECIAL LISTSERV COMMANDS
SET rottie-l REPRO
You will be sent a copy of everything you post to the List, (like an "Echo") so that you can see that the message was distributed and did not get damaged on the way. This is the default and when you subscribed to rottie-l your subscription was set this way.
SET rottie-l NOREPRO
(You will not be sent a copy of your own posts to the List)
SET rottie-l DUALHDR
(Some subscribers use mail programs that only show rottie-l as the sender of any message to the List. Since people are notorious about not signing their names to their messages, this can cause a lot of confusion in trying to decide who is saying what, and can make it impossible to send mail privately. If you send this command to LISTSERV, it will duplicate key elements of the original message within the message itself so it is apparent who sent it)

(Tells you your current subscription settings for rottie-l)
HELP
(Gives you basic commands)
GET rottie-l LOGyymmx
(This is the archives feature. Archive files are stored on a weekly basis. Where "x" is "a" thru "e" for the 1st thru 5th week of the month. For example, to receive the archive files for the 2nd week of July, 1995 send the command GET rottie-l LOG9507b. Or you may use LISTSERV's database search facilities.)
